Technology-driven national home loan lender ranks 12th in its 12th year in a row on landmark list

DETROIT, March 5, 2015 – Quicken Loans (QL), the nation’s second largest retail mortgage lender, today was named among the 12 best places to work in America in FORTUNE Magazine’s annual ranking of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” This marks the 12th straight year Detroit-based Quicken Loans has ranked in the top third of FORTUNE’s benchmark workplace study. It is the highest Michigan-based company on the list.

Quicken Loans’ business and workplace success is rooted in its unique and effective culture, which focuses on discarding the all-too-common bureaucratic corporate model and creating an environment that empowers every one of its 12,000 plus team members to make a positive impact on the business as well as allowing innovation to flourish without fear of failure.

“When you attract and hire amazing people, they naturally want to make an impact. Pair that with a culture built around empowerment and technology and you have a climate where people excel and feel fulfilled. Our team members know that failure is actually an option. Without that knowledge, we would not get any of the innovative and creative ideas and actions our people generate each and every day,” said Quicken Loans Chief Executive Officer Bill Emerson. “I couldn’t be more proud of our entire brain force. Like business gladiators, they come to the office every day with the mission of not only working IN our business but also working ON our business.”

Quicken Loans closed $140 billion in home loan volume over the past two years becoming the second largest retail mortgage lender and largest FHA and VA mortgage provider in the country during this time frame. Quicken Loans also grew into one of the nation’s top 10 largest mortgage servicers over the past year, growing its servicing portfolio to more than $161 billion of home loan volume.

Quicken Loans was named highest in customer satisfaction among all home loan lenders in America by J.D. Power for the 5th consecutive year in 2014 in addition to being named highest in customer satisfaction among all mortgage servicers in 2014 – the online home lender’s first year of eligibility.

“Love your team members. Love your clients and customers. Just do those two things and your business will be well on its way to doing great things,” said Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert.

The company has also taken the same passion for client service and channeled it into the development of its hometown of Detroit.

In the past year, Quicken Loans team members devoted more than 75,000 volunteer hours to further the city’s ongoing revitalization. The company implemented a paid-time-off program for team members allowing them to help any non-profit community organization of their choice.

“We have discovered something very interesting and enlightening over the past few years; when a company has a greater purpose above and beyond the business’s revenue and profits, such as our mission to improve neighborhoods and help drive the comeback of a great American city, it not only positively affects the community, but also fires up our team members to become even better at their actual day jobs,” added Emerson.

According to FORTUNE’s survey, 98 percent of Quicken Loans team members said they feel good about how the company gives back to the community. Additionally, 96 percent of team members say they are proud to work at the company.

FORTUNE Magazine partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to develop a comprehensive team member survey that examines team member satisfaction through questions about compensation, empowerment, and training to rank the companies. The survey is randomly distributed to team members, with the results of the survey accounting for two-thirds of the overall company score. The remaining company score is determined through the Great Place to Work Institute’s Culture Audit, a series of questions and surveys on benefits, hiring and recognition.
