DETROIT, September 17, 2018 – Detroit-based Quicken Loans, the nation’s largest mortgage lender, today announced a long-term agreement with Universal McCann (UM) to oversee the company’s media planning and buying. UM also announced plans to open a new office in the Bedrock-owned First National Building in the heart of downtown Detroit. The company will initially house 40 employees in the 1001 Woodward Ave. building with plans to grow to 150 employees once the new space in the First National Building is completed in 2019.

“Our marketing team has played a major role in Quicken Loans becoming the largest lender in America within the last year,” said Jay Farner, Quicken Loans CEO. “Partnering with Universal McCann will give us additional capabilities and the experience of a global media partner as we continue to grow our brand and market share.”

Quicken Loans chose UM based on its established reputation of high-impact client work and its commitment to providing innovative and forward-thinking strategy. The agency will provide expertise in building transformative media strategies to be integrated within digital, broadcast and social.

“We were excited to learn that UM was looking to expand and open a new location in Detroit at the same time we were searching for a new media partner,” said Casey Hurbis, Quicken Loans CMO. “The timing was perfect and allows us to not only have a partner with unmatched expertise, but someone we can also call a neighbor.”

As the official agency of record, the UM team will assist with creating and implementing a holistic media plan to increase brand awareness of the Quicken Loans and Rocket Mortgage brands. UM will work closely with Quicken Loans’ in-house marketing team to immediately begin executing on initiatives for 2019 and beyond.

“Detroit’s business community continues to flourish, and there has never been a better time for us to expand into downtown. Face-to-face interaction with our clients is the key to understanding and achieving their goals, and we look forward to the increased connectivity and collaboration this new opportunity affords,” said Scott Russell, President, Central Region, UM. “We are honored to have been chosen as the new agency of record for Quicken Loans. Our companies share an innovative, tech-forward vision and we are eager to begin working together to help them grow their business to new heights. We are also excited by the possibility of working with other Detroit-based technology leaders as part of our move to the city.”

UM joins hundreds of businesses already operating in Detroit’s fintech, mobility, marketing and tech-development ecosystem – including Microsoft, LinkedIn, Amazon, WeWork, Google, Pinterest, Snapchat, Twitter, Uber and StockX – among the list of companies that is growing by the day.
